Instructor: Mary Jo Lowery
Yoga is generally associated with stretching, relaxation, and specialized breathing. Most people who take hatha yoga classes do so for stress reduction or to increase stamina and flexibility. While these benefits definitely exist, there are more subtle, cumulative effects of regular yoga practice that affect mood and self-awareness. Join Mary Jo Lowery for an hour of yoga once a week. Ideal for beginners or continuing students, this is a gentle class where the focus is on the basic poses and breath awareness followed by guided relaxation. Lowery began her exploration of yoga over 20 years ago. Diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1996, she tried a number of conventional and alternative therapies but found that regular yoga practice restored her health and brought balance and self-healing to her life. Certified through Integral Yoga with additional studies in a variety of traditions, Lowery was a pilot teacher for the American Arthritis Association's Arthritis Friendly Yoga program.
